Safe standing trial starts today
12,000 rails installed at Stamford Bridge and will be used today v Liverpool in areas behind each goal where fans have been standing anyway.
Ironically Liverpool who were responsible for the ban on standing are also part of the trial along with Man U, Man City & Cardiff.

If it goes well presumably others will be allowed to follow suit next season.
At London Stadium the lower tier at either end should accommodate this easily.

Seems different covid rules are able to be applied to seated / standing venues… Bit handy it being trialled now after decades of campaigning… Maybe… Possibly… Perhaps…

It’s all a farce I stand in front of my seat every week, will still only be one per seat???

What's the actual current rule on seats/terracing in the UK? Like how far down the leagues or how low does capacity have to be?

I find it risible that they should trial this at Chelsea when they are playing against the most unruliest supporters who have been responsible for two separate stadia disasters.

The Germans allow more fans into their safe standing areas than the European matches, when they have to use seats.

I don’t see why England can’t do the same. Cram in more, so we stand shoulder to shoulder. There’s no risk of dangerous crushing surges, but I suppose there maybe a higher risk of spreading mild colds.

We already have this in the away end at London stadium

I can’t see that this makes any difference to what already happens behind most goals at most grounds already.

A stand purpose built for safe standing might be better.

Can you sit down if you want to, or is it locked up?
I don't want to stand through half time if there's a seat there that I paid for.

Re: Safe standing trial starts today
If we're all really honest 'away' football spectators have hardly ever sat down at major sporting events throughout the 'standing ban' with Liverpool and Man Utd fans amongst the worst offenders at away games.
The authorities are never going to allow terracing at Premier League games so safe standing where you get your allotted space/seat is as good as it's going to get.
The cause of Hillsborough was too many spectators cramming into one fenced in area behind the goal. That's a situation that shouldn't arise with safe standing unless people behave like complete arseholes (European Championship Final).

It’s full name should be safe standing at your seat, they won’t be selling more than they do already in the areas with it I’m sure.

Looks absolute SHIT... why not just stand up like everyone did in the BML and in the corner of the CR... why do you need BARS in front of you... are new fans paraplegics or something??

Re: Safe standing trial starts today
The seats are always there with the rail I thought.
The Sky reporter was standing in the lower tier of the Chelsea home end and looked like it was in all of that along with some at the other end.
There are 12,000 which is about twice as many as the other grounds.
Think Liverpool have 5 or 6,000 at the Anfield Rd end and a few rows at the back of the Kop.

"In theory you could cram in more CUSTOMERS"

I thought that, too.

But having seen a picture of this safe standing, it just looks like a rail put in, with the seats still in place.

I have only seen one small picture as an example, though.

Gold's banged on quite a few times that he's a massive supporter of safe standing, and has mentioned he'd like to have it at the stadium.

From the OS:
"The two recently-installed new stands in the Sir Trevor Brooking and Bobby Moore Lower Tiers have already been fully designed with any possible future developments with regards to safe standing already in mind so as to be compatible for future installation, to allow them to be adapted should there be any changes to Premier League guidelines on safe standing."

Time for Gold0 to put his money where his mouth is.

Re: Safe standing trial starts today
Can someone advise on the BUSINESS CASE for the stadium owners to spend money on something for absolutely zero extra revenue at the OS, please?

A business case is not we want it btw.

Maybe GSB will fund it...
